Colonial Taiwan

Colonial Taiwan refers to the period from 1895 to 1945 when Taiwan was under Japanese rule following Japan's victory in the First Sino-Japanese War. During this time, Japan invested in infrastructure, education, and industrialization, but also imposed strict control and suppressed local culture. The period significantly shaped Taiwan’s development, as modern systems and facilities were introduced, influencing its society and economy. After Japan's defeat in World War II, Taiwan was handed over to the Republic of China, marking the end of the colonial era and beginning of a new political chapter.
