Cognitive balance refers to the mental state where our thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes are in harmony, creating a sense of internal consistency. When our beliefs or actions conflict, we experience discomfort or tension, known as cognitive dissonance. To restore balance, we tend to adjust our beliefs or behaviors to resolve the inconsistency. This process helps us maintain psychological stability, guiding us to interpret information in ways that align with existing beliefs or motivate change to reduce discomfort. In essence, cognitive balance is our mind’s way of striving for coherence and mental harmony.
