coffee farming
Coffee farming involves cultivating coffee plants, primarily in tropical regions with suitable climates. Farmers select fertile land, plant coffee seedlings, and manage the crop by irrigating, fertilizing, pest control, and pruning. Coffee plants typically take 3-4 years to produce cherries, the fruit containing beans. During harvest, workers pick ripe cherries by hand. The cherries are then processed—either by dry or wet methods—to extract the coffee beans. Finally, the beans are dried, graded, and prepared for packaging and shipping to roasters worldwide. Sustainable practices aim to protect ecosystems and ensure fair wages for farmers.
