Coercive Control Theory

Coercive Control Theory explains how some abusers use a pattern of ongoing, subtle tactics—such as manipilation, intimidation, isolation, and monitoring—to exert power over their victims. Instead of relying solely on physical violence, the abuser aims to dominate every aspect of the victim's life, making them feel dependent and helpless. This persistent control can erode the victim’s autonomy and sense of self, often behind closed doors, and is recognized as a form of ongoing abuse that is difficult to detect but highly damaging.
