Cocoon production

Cocoon production is the process by which silkworms create a protective casing around themselves as they develop into moths. Inside the cocoon, the silkworm spins continuous, fine silk fiber by extruding liquid silk from its salivary glands, which hardens upon contact with air. This silk fiber forms a dense, smooth shell that encases the pupating larva. Harvested cocoons are then processed—boiled to soften the silk and unwinded into long threads used in making silk fabric. This natural process is fundamental to the sericulture industry and the production of high-quality silk textiles.
