Coastal Sage Scrub

Coastal Sage Scrub is a unique, low-growing plant community found in Southern California and parts of Baja California. It consists mainly of drought-tolerant shrubs like sage,'California buckwheat, and black sage, adapted to dry, Mediterranean climates with mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. This habitat supports diverse wildlife, including birds, insects, and small mammals. It plays a vital role in maintaining regional biodiversity, preventing erosion, and filtering air and water. Coastal Sage Scrub is considered an important ecological system but is vulnerable due to urban development and habitat loss.
