Coastal Command
Coastal Command was a branch of the British Royal Air Force during World War II responsible for protecting Britain’s surrounding waters. Its main tasks included patrolling the coastline and Atlantic Ocean to spot and attack enemy submarines, ships, and aircraft, especially German U-boats threatening supply routes. They also conducted reconnaissance, maritime search and rescue, and convoy protection. Equipped with patrol aircraft like the Lockheed Hudson and Consolidated Catalinas, Coastal Command played a vital role in maintaining maritime security and ensuring the safe movement of troops and supplies across the Atlantic during the war.
