Coal To Liquid (CTL) technology
Coal-to-Liquid (CTL) technology transforms coal into liquid fuels like gasoline and diesel using chemical processes such as gasification and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. First, coal is heated with oxygen and steam to produce a synthesis gas (a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen). This gas is then converted into liquid hydrocarbons through catalytic reactions, creating synthetic fuels. CTL allows for fuel production from abundant coal reserves, but it is energy-intensive and generates significant greenhouse gas emissions, raising environmental concerns. Overall, CTL is a way to produce liquid fuels from coal when crude oil supplies are limited or expensive.
