CNMI Constitution

The CNMI Constitution is the fundamental legal document that establishes the governance and rights of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. It defines the structure of government—executive, legislative, and judicial—and outlines the powers and responsibilities of each branch. It also protects individual rights and provides processes for making laws and ensuring justice. Enacted in 1976, the constitution ensures local self-governance while recognizing the CNMI’s relationship with the United States, ensuring both local autonomy and federal oversight. It serves as the foundation for laws and government operations within the CNMI.
