CNGS (CERN Neutrino to Gran Sasso project)
The CERN Neutrino to Gran Sasso (CNGS) project is an experiment that sends a beam of neutrinos, which are tiny, nearly massless particles, from CERN in Switzerland to the Gran Sasso Laboratory in Italy, about 730 kilometers away. The goal is to study neutrino properties, such as how they change type—a phenomenon called oscillation. Because neutrinos rarely interact with matter, a powerful particle beam and large detectors are needed. This project helps scientists understand fundamental physics, including the behavior of the universe's most mysterious particles.
