Cluster II Mission

Cluster II was a European Space Agency mission launched to study Earth's magnetosphere—the magnetic shield protecting our planet from solar and cosmic radiation. Consisting of four spacecraft flying in formation, it explored how magnetic fields and particles interact in space around Earth. By analyzing these processes, Cluster II helped scientists better understand space weather, magnetic reconnection, and their effects on satellites, power systems, and communication. The mission provided critical data on Earth's magnetic environment, contributing to improved space weather forecasting and safeguarding technology and astronauts affected by cosmic phenomena.
