Clinical Muscle Testing

Clinical muscle testing, often called manual muscle testing (MMT), is a technique used by healthcare practitioners to evaluate muscle strength and function. The practitioner applies gentle pressure to a muscle or muscle group while the patient resists, assessing the muscle’s ability to maintain that resistance. This process helps identify areas of weakness, nerve or muscle impairment, or imbalance. It’s used in physical therapy, chiropractic care, and other fields to help diagnose issues, monitor progress, and guide treatment plans. The test provides insights into how well the muscular and nervous systems are working together.
