Clinical Electromyography

Clinical electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic test that measures the electrical activity produced by muscles. When nerves stimulate muscles, they generate electrical signals; EMG records these signals using small needle electrodes inserted into the muscles or surface electrodes on the skin. This helps doctors assess muscle health and nerve function, identifying conditions like nerve damage, muscular disorders, or nerve compression. EMG provides valuable information about how well nerves and muscles communicate, guiding diagnosis and treatment plans. The procedure is generally safe, may cause minor discomfort, and offers insights that aren't visible through physical exam alone.
