Clinical Dementia Rating

The Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) is a tool doctors use to assess the severity of dementia, a condition affecting memory, thinking, and daily functioning. It evaluates six areas: memory, orientation, judgment and problem-solving, community affairs, home and hobbies, and personal care. Based on these, individuals are given a score that ranges from 0 (no symptoms) to 3 (severe impairment). This helps healthcare providers determine the stage of dementia, plan treatment, and monitor changes over time, providing a standardized way to understand and track the progression of the condition.
