Clemency Project 2014
Clemency Project 2014 was an initiative launched by the U.S. Department of Justice to review and recommend commutations (reductions in prison sentences) for non-violent, low-level federal offenders, particularly those serving lengthy or unjust sentences under harsh laws. The goal was to address fairness and justice by identifying individuals whose sentences did not fit their offenses, especially in light of evolving sentencing policies and the goal of reducing overcrowding. Thousands of cases were examined, and eligible inmates received recommendations for clemency from volunteer lawyers, with some applying for executive clemency from the President.
