Clara Lemlich was a prominent labor leader and activist born in Ukraine in 1886. She emigrated to the United States and became a key figure in the garment workers’ movement, advocating for better working conditions, fair wages, and workers’ rights. In 1909, she helped organize a major strike among female shirtwaist makers, known as the Uprising of the 20,000, which highlighted issues faced by industrial workers. Lemlich was known for her passionate speeches and leadership in labor rights, ultimately contributing to important labor reforms and inspiring future activism for workers' justice.
