CK

CK, or creatine kinase, is an enzyme found mainly in the heart, brain, and skeletal muscles. It plays a crucial role in producing energy within cells by helping convert creatine into a form that stores and supplies energy for muscle contractions. When muscle cells are damaged—such as after intense exercise, injury, or a heart attack—CK leaks into the bloodstream, raising its levels. Measuring CK levels through a blood test can help diagnose muscle damage or assess the severity of conditions affecting muscles or the heart.
