Civil timekeeping
Civil timekeeping is the system humans use to measure and organize daily life by dividing the day into standardized units, primarily hours, minutes, and seconds. It is based on the Earth's rotation and orbit around the Sun, with the day roughly matching one rotation (about 24 hours). Time is often kept using clocks synchronized to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which combines atomic time precision with adjustments for Earth's irregular rotation. This system ensures consistent timekeeping globally, allowing societies to coordinate activities, transportation, communication, and business across different regions effectively.
