Civic Arena

The Civic Arena, also known as the Mellon Arena, was a famous indoor sports and event venue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Opened in 1961, it was renowned for its distinctive retractable roof, which was the first of its kind. The arena hosted hockey games for the Pittsburgh Penguins, as well as concerts, basketball games, and other events. It was an iconic part of Pittsburgh's skyline and community for over five decades. The arena closed in 2010 and was later demolished in 2012, making way for new development and preserving its legacy as a sports and entertainment landmark.
