"City of Refuge"
A "City of Refuge" was an ancient sanctuary designated to protect individuals who committed unintentional manslaughter. When someone accidentally caused a death, they could flee to one of these cities to avoid revenge or retaliation from the victim’s family. Inside the city, their case was examined, and if proven unintentional, they could stay until a fair trial or until the high priest’s death. These cities ensured justice and offered safety, preventing cycles of violence. In biblical times, they symbolized mercy and the importance of fair treatment within the community.
