Cisleithania
Cisleithania referred to the western part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1867 to 1918, primarily encompassing regions like present-day Austria and the Czech Republic. It was characterized by a centralized administration and a diverse population, including various ethnic groups such as Germans, Czechs, and Slovaks. This area contrasted with Transleithania, the Hungarian part of the empire. The name reflects the division of the empire along the political lines established in the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, which aimed to balance power between Austria and Hungary within the dual monarchy.
