Ciliary Transport
Ciliary transport is the process by which tiny hair-like structures called cilia move cells or substances along the surface of cells. Cilia beat rhythmically to help clear mucus and debris from airways or to move fluids and nutrients across cell surfaces. Inside cilia, specialized proteins and structures coordinate movement through a system of transport that delivers materials needed for their function and repair. This internal transport is essential for cilia to operate properly, ensuring they stay clean, functional, and able to perform their roles in maintaining healthy tissues.
