Ciliary structure

Cilia are tiny, hair-like structures protruding from the surface of many cells, acting like microscopic oars or sensors. Each cilium is made up of a core called the axoneme, composed of microtubules arranged in a specific pattern. These microtubules are powered by specialized motor proteins that enable the cilia to move or sense their environment. Cilia are essential for functions like clearing mucus from the airways, moving fluid across cell surfaces, or detecting signals, playing a critical role in maintaining health and proper bodily functions.
