Ciliary Dysfunction

Ciliary dysfunction occurs when tiny, hair-like structures called cilia, which line many parts of the body like the respiratory tract and the reproductive system, don't work properly. These cilia help move mucus, fluids, and cells, playing a key role in clearing germs and debris. When they dysfunction, this clearance is impaired, leading to increased risk of infections, mucus buildup, and other health issues. Conditions like primary ciliary dyskinesia are caused by genetic problems affecting cilia's structure or function, resulting in symptoms such as chronic respiratory infections, sinusitis, and fertility challenges.
