Ciguayo people
The Ciguayo were an indigenous Taíno group residing in northeastern Hispaniola (modern-day Dominican Republic and Haiti) before European contact. They are known for their distinct cultural practices, including pottery and social organization, and are recognized as part of the broader Taíno civilization that inhabited the Caribbean. The Ciguayo maintained their territory for several centuries, resisting colonial influence longer than other groups in the region. Their history provides valuable insight into the complex societies that thrived in the Caribbean before European arrival.
