Churchill Falls (Hydro-Québec)
Churchill Falls is a large hydroelectric power station in Labrador, operated by the Churchill Falls (Labrador) Corporation, a subsidiary of Hydro-Québec. It harnesses the energy of the Churchill River to generate electricity, supplying vast amounts of clean, renewable power mainly to Quebec and Newfoundland. The project includes a dam and underground generating stations, capable of producing over 5,000 megawatts. Its development has been economically significant, but also contentious, due to long-term power agreements and resource-sharing arrangements between jurisdictions. Overall, Churchill Falls is a major source of hydroelectric energy, contributing to regional and national electricity grids.
