Church Slavic

Church Slavonic, often called Church Slavic, is a historical liturgical language used by Eastern Orthodox and some Eastern Catholic churches in Slavic countries. Developed in the 9th century, it is based on the Old Bulgarian language and served as the liturgical and literary language for centuries. Although it is no longer spoken in everyday life, it remains important for religious services, prayers, and church texts. Its preservation helps maintain cultural and religious traditions across many Slavic communities.
