Church of St. Sava (Belgrade)
The Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade is one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world, dedicated to Serbia's founder and saint, Saint Sava. Built on the site of a historic Ottoman mosque, it symbolizes Serbian national and religious identity. The church features impressive Byzantine-style architecture with a massive marble dome and richly decorated interior. Construction began in 1935 but faced interruptions due to wars and political changes, with ongoing work resuming later. It serves as a major religious, cultural, and national symbol, attracting visitors and worshippers alike, and is an iconic centerpiece of Belgrade’s skyline.
