Chukchi National Autonomous Okrug

Chukchi National Autonomous Okrug is a federal subdivision of Russia located in the northeastern part of Siberia. It is known for its remote, Arctic environment and indigenous Chukchi people, who traditionally engage in hunting, fishing, and reindeer herding. The region is rich in natural resources, including oil, gas, and minerals. Since 2020, it has been administratively merged with Chukotka Autonomous Okrug to form the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, but it retains cultural significance for the indigenous communities. The area features rugged landscapes, permafrost, and a harsh climate, making it a unique and sparsely populated part of Russia.
