Chukchi Language

The Chukchi language is an indigenous language spoken primarily in the Chukchi Peninsula of northeastern Russia. It belongs to the Chukotko-Kamchatkan language family and is related to other indigenous languages of Siberia. Chukchi has unique sounds and grammar structures, including a complex system of noun cases and verb conjugations that reflect aspects like possession and movement. Historically, it has been a spoken language, with a rich oral tradition, but today it faces challenges from Russian, which is widely used in education and media. Efforts are ongoing to preserve and revitalize the language among Chukchi communities.
