Chronoception

Chronoception is the brain's ability to perceive and interpret the passage of time. It helps us gauge durations, distinguish between fast and slow events, and organize our actions and experiences accordingly. Unlike the external measurement of time with clocks, chronoception is an internal sense that varies depending on factors like attention, emotions, and context. For example, time may seem to slow down during an emergency or fly by when you're engaged in an enjoyable activity. It involves complex neural processes that coordinate sensory input, memory, and attention to create our subjective experience of time.
