Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML)

Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) is a type of blood cancer that begins in the bone marrow, where blood cells are made. It involves the overproduction of monocytes, a type of white blood cell important for fighting infections. In CMML, these cells grow abnormally and accumulate in the blood and tissues, impairing immune function and affecting blood cell production. It mainly affects older adults and can cause symptoms like fatigue, fever, and easy bruising. Since it shares features of both leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes, CMML requires careful diagnosis and management by healthcare professionals.
