chromosphere

The chromosphere is a layer of the Sun located above the photosphere and below the corona. It’s a thin, reddish region that appears during solar eclipses and emits orange-red light due to hot, ionized gases. The chromosphere plays a crucial role in solar activity, such as solar flares and prominences, because it’s a dynamic area where magnetic forces influence the solar atmosphere. It’s typically around 2,000 to 3,500 kilometers thick and is hotter than the photosphere beneath it. Scientists study the chromosphere to better understand how energy and magnetic activity move through the Sun’s outer layers.
