Chromium (element)
Chromium is a metallic element with the symbol Cr and atomic number 24. It is known for its shiny, silvery appearance and high corrosion resistance due to a thin oxide layer that forms on its surface. Chromium is widely used in the production of stainless steel and other alloys to improve durability and appearance. It also plays a role as a trace mineral in human nutrition, aiding in metabolism and blood sugar regulation. Chemically, chromium can exist in several oxidation states, with the most common being +3 and +6, the latter being toxic and a known carcinogen.
