Chromatin remodelers

Chromatin remodelers are specialized protein complexes that modify the structure of chromatin—the combination of DNA and proteins in our cells—making genetic information more or less accessible. They do this by repositioning, removing, or restructuring nucleosomes (DNA wrapped around protein cores). This process regulates gene expression, turning genes on or off as needed. Essentially, chromatin remodelers act like molecular switches, controlling how tightly DNA is packed and ensuring the right genes are active at the right times, which is vital for normal cell function and development.
