Chromaffin Cells

Chromaffin cells are specialized cells located in the adrenal medulla, part of the adrenal glands on top of the kidneys. They play a key role in the body's fight-or-flight response by producing and releasing adrenaline (epinephrine) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline). When the body perceives stress or danger, these cells quickly secrete these hormones into the bloodstream, helping to increase heart rate, blood flow, and energy levels. Chromaffin cells are part of the sympathetic nervous system and are named for their ability to stain brownish (chromafin) when viewed under a microscope.
