Chosun (Joseon) dynasty

The Joseon Dynasty, also known as Chosun, was a Korean kingdom that lasted from 1392 to 1897. It was one of Korea’s longest-ruling dynasties, characterized by Confucian ideals shaping its government, culture, and society. The dynasty strengthened Korea’s identity through advancements in science, art, and technology, and established a centralized bureaucratic system. It experienced periods of peace and prosperity but also faced internal political struggles and external invasions, notably by Japan and the Manchu. The Joseon Dynasty laid the foundations for modern Korean culture, language, and institutions, ending when Korea transitioned to the Korean Empire and later colonization by Japan.
