cholestatic liver disease
Cholestatic liver disease occurs when the flow of bile, a digestive fluid produced by the liver, is blocked or impaired. This causes bile to build up in the liver, leading to symptoms like jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), itching, dark urine, and pale stools. Conditions that cause cholestasis include liver inflammation, blockages in the bile ducts, or certain genetic disorders. Over time, this can damage liver cells and impair liver function. Diagnosis often involves blood tests, imaging, and sometimes biopsy. Treatment aims to relieve the obstruction or address the underlying cause to prevent liver damage.
