Chlorobium
Chlorobium is a genus of green bacteria known as green sulfur bacteria. These microorganisms thrive in low-light, oxygen-deficient environments like deep lakes and sulfur-rich waters. They perform a form of photosynthesis using sulfur compounds instead of water, producing sulfur instead of oxygen as a byproduct. Chlorobium contains special pigments called chlorobium chlorophyll that capture light energy efficiently in dim conditions. They play a key role in their ecosystems by cycling sulfur and supporting other aquatic life, especially in environments where sunlight is limited.
