Chlorine gas poisoning

Chlorine gas poisoning occurs when someone inhales chlorine gas, which is a toxic, yellow-green respiratory irritant. Exposure can cause burning sensations in the nose, throat, and chest, coughing, and difficulty breathing. In high concentrations, it may lead to lung inflammation, fluid buildup (pulmonary edema), and respiratory failure. Chlorine gas reacts with moisture in the airways to form hydrochloric acid, damaging lung tissue. Immediate treatment involves removing the person from exposure, supportive care, and oxygen therapy. Severe cases may require hospitalization and advanced medical interventions to prevent long-term lung damage or death.
