Chlorate

Chlorate is a chemical compound composed of chlorine and oxygen atoms, often found in substances like disinfectants or herbicides. Chemically, it’s made up of a chlorine atom bonded to three oxygen atoms (ClO₃⁻). While useful in agriculture and industry, chlorates can be hazardous if handled improperly because they are strong oxidizers, meaning they can intensify fires or explosions if mixed with combustible materials. In small quantities, they are generally safe when used as directed, but exposure in high amounts can be toxic and cause health issues.
