Chixculub impact event

The Chicxulub impact event occurred around 66 million years ago when a giant asteroid approximately 6 miles (10 km) wide struck what is now the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. The impact created a huge crater and released an enormous amount of energy, causing massive wildfires, tsunamis, and a dramatic dust cloud that blocked sunlight. This sudden environmental upheaval led to the mass extinction of about 75% of Earth's species, including the dinosaurs. The event is widely linked to the transition from the dinosaurs’ dominance to the rise of mammals, marking a significant turning point in Earth's history.
