Chiron (minor planet)
Chiron is an object in space classified as a minor planet and a centaur because it orbits between Jupiter and Neptune. Discovered in 1977, it has a mixed nature: part asteroid—rocky—and part comet—icy and capable of developing a tail when warmed by the Sun. Chiron's orbit is unusual, crossing those of both asteroids and comets, making it a bridge between the two groups. Its unique characteristics help scientists understand the early solar system, as it contains materials from that era, and studying it offers insights into how planets and small bodies evolve over time.
