Chinese Maritime Expeditions
Chinese maritime expeditions, particularly during the Ming Dynasty (15th century), were large-scale naval voyages aimed at establishing China’s presence, securing trade routes, and demonstrating national power. Led by Admiral Zheng He, these expeditions traveled across the Indian Ocean, reaching Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa. They involved massive fleets of ships carrying treasures, diplomats, and scholars. These voyages boosted international trade, facilitated cultural exchanges, and expanded China's influence. After Zheng He’s last voyage, China largely retreated from global exploration, focusing instead on internal development and defense.
