Chimurenga

Chimurenga is a Shona word from Zimbabwe that refers to periods of armed resistance or rebellion against colonial or oppressive rulers. Historically, it describes two major uprisings in Zimbabwe's history: the First Chimurenga (1896–1897), which opposed British colonization, and the Second Chimurenga (1966–1979), which fought for independence from white minority rule. Beyond military conflict, it also symbolizes a broader cultural and political movement advocating for Zimbabwean sovereignty, identity, and rights. Overall, Chimurenga represents collective struggle and resilience in the face of domination and injustice.
