Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell Therapy (CAR-T)
Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell Therapy (CAR-T) is an advanced cancer treatment that uses a patient's immune cells, called T-cells, to fight cancer. In this process, scientists collect T-cells, modify them in a lab to recognize cancer cells more effectively by adding special receptors called chimeric antigen receptors, and then infuse them back into the patient's body. These engineered cells then seek out and destroy cancer cells. CAR-T therapy is particularly effective for certain blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, offering a targeted approach that harnesses and enhances the patient’s immune system.
