Chilean Truth and Reconciliation Commission
The Chilean Truth and Reconciliation Commission, established in 1990, was a fact-finding body tasked with investigating human rights abuses during Chile’s military dictatorship (1973-1990). Its goal was to uncover the truth about disappearances, killings, and repression, providing a comprehensive account of these events. The commission aimed to promote transparency, acknowledge victims' suffering, and foster national healing. While it did not have the power to prosecute, its work informed public awareness, influenced policy reforms, and contributed to processes of reconciliation and memory in Chilean society.
