Child and Adult Protective Services (CAPS)

Child and Adult Protective Services (CAPS) are government agencies responsible for investigating reports of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of vulnerable populations—children and adults with disabilities or of advanced age. They assess situations to ensure safety, provide support, and coordinate services to protect individuals from harm. Their goal is to intervene when necessary, promote well-being, and help families or individuals access resources to improve safety and stability. CAPS functions through confidential investigations, collaboration with community partners, and sometimes, removal from unsafe environments to ensure the health and safety of those at risk.
