Chikungunya Virus

Chikungunya virus is a mosquito-borne illness primarily found in tropical and subtropical regions. It causes symptoms such as fever, joint pain, headache, and rash. The name "Chikungunya" comes from a word meaning "to become contorted," referring to the debilitating joint pain it can cause. Although most people recover fully, the pain may persist for months or even years in some cases. There is no specific treatment or vaccine, so prevention focuses on reducing mosquito exposure through repellents and reducing standing water, where mosquitoes breed. Awareness and precautions are key to avoiding infection.
