Chickamauga
The Battle of Chickamauga, fought in September 1863 during the American Civil War, was a significant Confederate victory over Union forces in northwestern Georgia. It involved intense fighting with heavy casualties on both sides, marking one of the war’s bloodiest battles. The Confederates, under General Braxton Bragg, successfully halted the Union’s advance into Georgia, but the victory was costly. The battle highlighted the fierce struggle for control of the Western Theater and set the stage for the Chattanooga Campaign. Despite the Confederate win, Union forces continued to press southward, and the battle’s high toll underscored the war’s brutal nature.
